Cost: $5, non-refundable. (The $5 fee covers mailing. The additional class costs are subsidized by the Guild, and are meant to be an end-of-the-year gift to members from the Guild.) This class is for Guild members only; if you are not a member but would like to become one, click here!
Description: At our November member meeting, we will have a hands-on project. Barbara Kommer will teach us how to make Flo Hoppe’s reed medallion. Barbara received permission from Flo to teach this fun project.
Noted wicker weaver Flo Hoppe created this medallion from a basket base pattern by Mary Miles Blanchard. And now you get to make it in the comfort of your own home!
Your kit will include Flo’s original instructions and material for one-two medallions (we have limited supplies and want everyone to be able to make at least one medallion). We will use two colors of #1 round reed, dyed red and natural. You also will get embroidery floss for a hanger. Add a ribbon from your own supply to make your medallion even more special.
Tools needed: spoke weight (such as a soup can or similar), scissors, 12" flat ruler, soaking pan and water, old towel or cloth. Optional: 14" red, green, or white ribbon 1/8 or ¼ inch wide.
We strongly encourage you to have a second (smartphone) camera over your workspace for demonstration, questions, and problem solving. This greatly aids the instructor, as well as helping you. You can use the DIY camera stand
Please note: This class is meant for Guild members only, if you are not a member but would like to become one, click here!
The last day to register is October 31, 2024. Class fee is non-refundable. If you have any questions about this class, please email ColumbiaBasinBasketryGuild@gmail.com
